2018 March Albert and the Elm

Albert and the Elm

Albert worked on a club tree to show over a period of time the development of this great raw material. The elm was quite overgrown, but under all the greenery the main lower branches were dead straight with little branching near the trunk. Elms tend to bud back at the ends of the branches so it was decided to cut back the lower branches to stumps and regrow them. The tree was potted up into a proper bonsai pot with little work on the roots (slip potting). The best time for re-potting deciduous is in late winter / early spring before the buds open.
