The Bimer Bonsai Club is bringing one of the world’s top-class Bonsai Masters, Peter Warren, to Australia for a program of promotion, demonstrations and development in November 2019.

Peter Warren completed a traditional six-year apprenticeship in Japan at Shunka-en Bonsai Museum studying under Kunio Kobayashi at his world-famous nursery in Tokyo, Japan. During which he learnt about not only bonsai techniques but display, suiseki (viewing stones) and antique pots. He is considered a global authority on these subjects. Apprenticeship completed, although originally from Yorkshire he returned to London where he is a full-time bonsai artist travelling far and wide, teaching and working with bonsai collectors and enthusiasts across the globe on a mission to elevate the art of bonsai. He also wrote one of the most popular books in the industry. Peter is part of a new breed of bonsai professional who possess the knowledge and technique of the Japanese bonsai approach, yet also strives to apply these skills to the varied cultures of bonsai as it’s practiced in countries around the world.
Peter has work exhibited at the highest levels in Japan, the US and Europe. In November 2013 he created and curated a novel contemporary bonsai exhibition, ‘Natural Flux’, held at the Brick Lane Gallery in London, drawing attention and accolades throughout the art world. Among the world of bonsai professionals, perhaps no other artist has as diverse of a knowledge and skill set as Peter Warren
Alongside working with bonsai, Peter is a published author and respected translator, regularly featuring in magazines around the world and writing a book published by DK. Contents include an introduction to bonsai, species guides and twenty step by step projects as inspiration. It is primarily an entry level book to inspire and educate those taking their first steps in the bonsai world, although there is plenty of information for more advanced enthusiasts in English, German, Spanish, French and other language versions. . With superb photography by Will Heap and a modern design throughout, it has been very well received.
While in Japan he featured regularly on radio and television and has become a well-known figure within the Japanese bonsai community with strong links to all the major artists and nurseries.
Over the last few years he has authored regular articles for the French magazine “Esprit Bonsai” which publishes in both French and English. It has been a very successful partnership with many articles ranging from techniques such as repotting and wiring, to exhibition reports from Japan and some more esoteric topics such as Light and Shadow within bonsai. He has featured regularly in the premier international bonsai magazine Bonsai Focus which is translated into 6 languages.; contributing as a bonsai artist, writer and translator. Many of the project trees featured are still being developed in the nursery.
His nursery in London, Saruyama Bonsai offers a full and comprehensive service for all bonsai needs, from teaching, styling and routine maintenance to sales and sourcing the best trees. pots and materials from around the world.
He has never been to Australia.

Peter Warren is coming to Brisbane for Bimer over 3 days in November. From the 1st to the 3rd, there will be multiple activities with a focus on intensive workshops. We are seeking expressions of interest from members to participate in full day workshops on Friday 1st (Bimer members only). There will also be ½ day workshops available on Sunday.
