Albert first started bonsai when he was 13 years old and picked out a small fig as a birthday present. He still has this fig (much larger now), which is a good reminder of humble beginnings. He learnt in the early years through trial and error and reading bonsai books. In the late nineties he joined a local bonsai club (Bimer) and started learning from experienced people, attending workshops, and reading the magazines in the club library.
In recent years, Albert has been exploring the use of native Australian species as bonsai, in particular Melaleucas. He has been trying different design styles to mimic the native trees as we see them in nature. He also enjoys searching for and collecting potential bonsai stock from the suburban jungle. Albert has been demonstrating at southeast Queensland clubs since 2005 and is currently president of the Bimer Bonsai Club.
Albert will be presenting and demonstrating some of his knowledge on Australian Native trees
